Congress Confirms Actor Charles Grodin as New Secretary of Defense

Congress confirmed new Secretary of Defense Charles Grodinsky (or Grodin) on Monday. The 78 year old actor has had some very diverse roles in important films like The Great Muppet Caper (1981), Beethoven (1992), Rosemary's Baby (1968) and King Kong (1976).

He was nominated by President Obama last Wednesday as a reaction to the public outcry against both former Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel and former North Carolina Senator John Edwards. The President claimed that Grodin, a Pittsburgh native, was the perfect man for the job. He went on to say that Grodin has shown his strengths through the various characters he has played on screen. "As far as I'm concerned, IMDb is the only resume that he'll ever need for public office," said the President.

President Obama went on to say that he was especially impressed by Grodin's role opposite Martin Short in Clifford (1994), stating that Grodin's character, Martin Daniels, was "foundational" in developing his own personal morality and leadership tactics.

Congress confirmed new Defense Secretary Grodin after a twenty minute interview. His qualifications were quickly found to be more acceptable than any of the previous nominees.

When Grodin was asked by senator John McCain (R-AZ) what plans he had for the armed forces during his tenure as Secretary of Defense, he answered, "We need to be ready for anything. I will prepare our fighting men and women for a new era in defense. We live in a world with unlimited possibilities. Twenty foot tall gorillas are around every corner, rebellious 10-year old boys are a dime a dozen, and the anti-Christ could be born any day. This will, in my view, be the most spectacular decade in history and I will make sure our military is duly prepared. We also have a problem with stray dogs in this country. That's an issue I feel strongly about. I want the military active domestically as well as overseas."
